You might think that Smyrna’s main claim to fame is the city’s proximity to Atlanta, but that’s not the case. There are lots of things to see, do, and experience right here in town. One of the most interesting things to do in Smyrna actually isn’t central to the city at all. It involves getting out and getting active in a unique way. Dubbed the Silver Comet Trail, this network of paved walkways and bikeways actually spans a significant portion of northern Georgia, and runs along an old railroad line (Seaboard), which has been out of commission for several decades. The trail runs through Paulding, Cobb, Fulton, and many other counties in Georgia, and offers space for walking, hiking, biking, and even rollerblading.
If you’re interested in the performing arts, we recommend paying attention to what productions are being shown at the Cobb Energy Performance Arts Centre in Atlanta (it’s just over three miles from Smyrna). The Coca-Cola Roxy is located less than three miles away and has shows and concerts throughout the year in a more intimate setting.
Looking for a way to take in some local history and color? Head to the Concord Covered Bridge where you can get a photo of yourself with this iconic landmark. Or, you can spend some time exploring Marietta Square, where you’ll find local coffee houses, great dining options, and some really interesting boutiques, all set in a historic city center.
For those interested in some sports enjoyment, SunTrust Park is located less than three miles from Smyrna, and is home of the Atlanta Braves. Make sure you check out Terrapin Brewing Company’s new stadium tasting room while you’re there to enjoy some locally brewed beer with your baseball fun. If you want to get involved with sports, rather than watching them be played, there are several golf courses you can choose from, including Fox Creek Golf Course and Driving Range. Legacy Golf Links is also worth your time.
Want to get in on some shopping fun? Smyrna has a ton of different options. Cumberland Mall is right down the road, and while smaller than some options, there are plenty of stores to explore. In addition, Town Center Mall is just a few miles away in Kennesaw (Barrett Parkway).
