With a population approaching 100,000 residents in the city itself, there is plenty to see and do around Orem. From shopping and dining options to entertainment venues, outdoor exploration opportunities, and educational facilities – it’s all here!
If you want to take in some culture and history, our recommendations include a visit to the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum in nearby Provo, as well as a trip to the Museum of Art at Brigham Young University. In fact, the entire BYU campus is worth exploring. For instance, the BYU Museum of Paleontology is ideal for budding or experienced dino hunters. The Woodbury Art Museum and The Soap Factory are also great choices, particularly if you have children. You’ll find tons of other museums and cultural activities in Salt Lake City, too.
Another great thing about the Orem area is the sheer number of parks and natural areas within easy reach. One of the most stunning is Bridal Veil Falls, located in nearby Provo (just over two miles from Orem). While it might not be quite as stunning as the falls of the same name in Yosemite, it’s a lot closer to hand. You could also spend time walking, biking, or hiking the Murdock Canal Trail, or you could hit Mount Timpanogos Park or Nielsens Grove Park.
Cascade Springs is just over three miles from Orem and offers fun throughout the year, or you could visit the City Center Park for a picnic or impromptu soccer or football game with the family. You can also spend the entire day at Provo Beach, which is less than two miles from Orem, and offers aquatic adventures for anyone of any age or skill level.
For those interested in both culture and entertainment, our recommendation is a visit to the Hale Center Theatre in Orem. You’ll find large and small-scale productions put on throughout the year, including some unique takes on popular tales like Into the Woods – a modern interpretation of Little Red Riding Hood.
If you want to spend some time in town shopping, then we recommend heading over to The Shops at Riverwoods, where you’ll find a ton of recognized brands available at discount prices. Need more? See’s Candies will satisfy your sweet tooth, or you can head over to the Three Sisters Indian Market. Pebbles in My Pocket is a fun boutique, or you can get your antique fix at Cat’s Cradle Antique and Art Shop.
