Savannah offers an incredible range of things to see, do and experience. There really is something here for everyone. History buff? You’re covered. Craft beer nut? You’re good, too. Love hauntings and spooks? There are ghost tours aplenty. Want to experience nature? That’s here too. From sporting events to colonial history, Savannah serves up an incredible range of attractions, sightseeing opportunities, landmarks and activities. We’re incredibly proud to be part of this thriving community.
We have to confess that one of our favorite stops here is the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts. This antebellum plantation home is stunningly preserved, and the grounds are rich in natural beauty. Whether you stay for a few minutes or a few hours, it’s well worth the stop.
Another must-experience aspect of life in Savannah is a trip to Broughton Street. Located in the heart of the historic downtown area, this is where you want to come for high-street shopping. There are tons of boutiques, local businesses, and even national retailers here to enjoy, as well as plenty of dining choices.
You cannot spend time in Savannah without at least visiting Forsyth Park once or twice. Whether you want to cycle around it, or just hang out at the fountain and soak up the cooling mist, this 30-acre park offers plenty of options for relaxation and rejuvenation. There are even walking trails that take you through the Fragrant Garden, where you can enjoy flowering plants and herbs.
If you want a bit of culture, make sure to stop at the Telfair Museum. The oldest public art museum in the South, this facility actually comprises three buildings, two of which are National Historic Landmarks. The third, called the Jepson Center, is modern, but offers an ever-changing range of exhibits that change every month.
Ask anyone who lives in Savannah and they will tell you that River Street is THE place to go to get up close and personal with some of the city’s amazing history. It is right on the Savannah River, and it still features its iconic cobbles. Even the tram rails still cut through the street. Sidewalks on both sides allow pedestrians to stroll through the shops and eateries. For additional historic exploration, we highly recommend visiting the Sorrel Weed House, the Green-Meldrim House, or the Pirate’s House in town.
If you’re a lover of haunted history, there are plenty of tour options that let you explore haunted houses and other areas of town where paranormal activity has been noted. You can take part in a formal tour, but there are numerous walking tours that you can take on your own. While you’re in the mood for touring, we highly recommend a Savannah food tour, as well – it’s a delicious addition to any day of sightseeing and exploration.
As a final note, craft beer lovers will find not one, not two, but five breweries located in the area. Service Brewing is veteran-owned and operated, and has extended distribution throughout the state. Moon River Brewing Company is a bit smaller, but no less enjoyable. Southbound Brewing Company is another up and coming option, and Two Tides Brewing Company is only a couple of years old. Finally, there is Coastal Empire Beer Co., a veteran and respected brewery with statewide distribution.
