Seriously, what’s not to love about Atlanta, Georgia? Yes, we might be part of the auto insurance industry, but we’re also big fans of Hotlanta. Whether you’re ITP or OTP, whether you’re up in Buckhead, or love strolling the streets in Midtown, there’s something here for everyone. One of our favorite ways to spend a day is to head out to Stone Mountain Park. The hike to the top is amazing (but best done in the spring or fall when the temps are lower), and the Laser Show every evening is always fun.
The Fox Theatre in downtown Atlanta is a great place to catch some of the hottest shows around, but we’re also a fan of the burgeoning craft beer scene in the city. Monday Night Brewing and Red Brick Brewing are two of our go-to locations, but Orpheus is also pretty high on that list.
If you’re in the mood for something a bit more cultural, we can recommend taking in the World of Coke downtown, or heading over to explore the CNN Center. The Atlanta History Center’s Cyclorama is an interesting way to get a unique look at the Civil War, too.
Want something that touches more on the natural world? The Georgia Aquarium is simply incredible, and well worth exploring. Zoo Atlanta is also a great place to explore. With that being said, if natural history is more your thing, make sure to check out Fernbank Science Center downtown. They have themed displays throughout the year and regularly host some pretty interesting events.
Of course, it’s not just about what’s inside the Perimeter. It’s also about what’s outside the I-285 loop. Atlanta’s a great destination in its own right, sure, but there’s so much to love within easy reach of the city’s central location. Like what, you ask?
Head west on I-20 for just a bit and you’ll come to Six Flags Over Georgia, where you and the family can spend an adrenaline-fueled day with some of the best rollercoasters and other thrill rides in the state. Head to Cobb Parkway, and you can enjoy the White Water theme park.
Head northeast up I-85 and then on 316 and you’ll hit Athens, home of the University of Georgia, but also tons of places to eat and relax. The 40 Watt, Sandy Creek Park, and three breweries to enjoy are just some of the attractions in Athens.
It might take you a bit of time, but heading east of Atlanta on I-20 will eventually take you to Augusta, where you can enjoy shopping, as well as close proximity to South Carolina. Or, head a bit south and you’ll hit Georgia’s Atlantic Coast, where you can explore Tybee Island, St. Simon’s Island, or the historic city of Savannah – the oldest city in Georgia, and one of the busiest port cities in the nation.
