The city of Alpharetta is more than just a satellite of Atlanta. There’s plenty to love about Alpharetta itself! One of our favorite ways to get outdoors and get active is to visit the Big Creek Greenway in Cumming (just a short drive from downtown Alpharetta). The hiking trails there are amazing, and it’s just a great place to enjoy time outdoors, whether you’re on your own, or with your significant other. Another great place is Wills Park – the tall trees, the well-maintained trails, and the natural beauty all combine to create an idyllic experience.
If you’re looking for something entertainment-oriented, there is almost always something going on at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater at Encore Park. From big-name music acts to smaller performances, you’ll find something going on throughout the year to help you get your entertainment on.
For shopping, there’s nothing better than North Point Mall, at least if you want to explore some of the bigger name anchor stores. Of course, the Mall of Georgia is just a few minutes up I-85, giving you access to the single largest shopping mall in the state without much of a commute.
If you’re interested in checking out some of the local landmarks, we recommend Avalon. There’re tons of things to do here, from shopping to dining. You can even sample craft beer from some of Georgia’s top breweries. Make sure you pay a visit to Jekyll Brewing’s tap room in the area, as well as the Wild Heaven tap room. Sweetwater Brewing Company is just a short drive south of there. Currahee Brewing Company rounds out the list of in-city options, but if you take 316 northwest for about 45 minutes, you can find four more breweries in the Athens, GA, area.
Looking to get in some local history and color? We’d recommend a visit to Old Mill Park in Roswell. It’s about six miles from downtown Alpharetta, so you won’t have to worry about driving too far. Bulloch Hall is also located in Roswell and is worth a visit, as is Mansell House and Gardens, which is in Alpharetta, not Roswell.
As you can see, there is something to do no matter what it is that you love. There are dog parks, golf courses, shopping areas, farmers markets and more, all waiting for you to explore them.
