Data We Collect
We collect information about you to quote and service your insurance policy. This is called personal data if it identifies you and is not available to the public.
Personal data includes any identifying information about you, such as:
- Name, residence address, e-mail address, phone number
- Age, gender, marital status, occupation, social security number, driver’s license number
- Driving record and claim history with other insurers for you and any driver in your household
- Car make and model, license number, lender or lease agent
- Credit standing, credit score, policy payment history
- Personal data about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others, including your insurance coverages, limits and rates, and payment and claims history. It also includes information that we require for billing and payment
- Web site that linked you to ours, your computer operating systems, and the pages you viewed on our site. Some Web sites, including ours, may also store "cookies" on your computer. Cookies collect technical data, like your Internet protocol (IP) address, operating system, and session ID. They can also save certain information entered by you. This information is unique to Internet transactions
We collect personal data from a variety of sources, such as:
- From you in person, through your agent or broker, by telephone, or over the Internet
- From others including consumer reporting agencies when we investigate claims or verify accident history
- Forms you submit to us, such as applications, claims, or policy updates
- Your transactions with us, such as claims, premium payments, account balance and history
- Credit bureaus to determine your credit standing, which may affect the availability of payment plan options or your rate, depending upon your state law
- The state records to verify driving record, auto title, or license status for each driver in your household
How We Use and Disclose Personal Data
We do not sell personal data or customer lists to anyone. We will not share your personal data with other companies for their marketing purposes without your consent. There is no need to "opt out” or tell us not to do this. We only disclose data about you as allowed or required by law. In those instances, we may disclose personal data without your prior consent. Our disclosures may include any personal data that is necessary to help others provide an insurance service on our behalf, to provide insurance claims or customer service, prevent fraud, perform research or comply with the law.
We may disclose personal data we collect to:
- Freedom Companies' affiliates who share a common database and provide personal insurance services
- Service Providers such as insurance agents and brokers, claims representatives and consumer reporting agencies that assist us with underwriting, processing payments, or adjusting claims
- Service Providers that assist us in preparing or sending our newsletters and special offers or otherwise marketing our products
- Medical-care facilities or providers, to verify coverage and benefits on injury claims
- A court or government agency when there is a lawful request
- Assist law enforcement and prevent fraud
- Service Providers that assist us when we process, evaluate or defend medical claims. We will get your written permission first, and share only medical data necessary to complete the evaluation or service
- Service Providers that assist us in technology development and maintenance, such as software development.
Our Service Providers:
When we use Service Providers to help us with services shown above, your personal data stays confidential except as permitted by law. Our Service Providers agree to keep consumer data private and not use it for any other purpose. These Service Providers may disclose the information to others as permitted by law. For example, consumer reporting agencies may disclose transaction information received from us to other insurance companies with which you do business. We do not share or sell consumer data to companies outside of Freedom Companies that would use it for marketing their products or services. We do not share credit information for marketing, or for any other reason.
Insurance Data Banks:
We share personal data with insurance data banks that collect information about claim history, accident fault, injury description, and amounts paid. Insurance data banks may retain personal data and disclose it to other insurance companies and others legally entitled to see it.
Current and Former Customers:
We send current customers a privacy notice with any changes each year. If we change our practices, we will inform you promptly. We treat former customer data the same way as current customer data.
How We Protect Your Personal Data
We restrict access to your personal data to our employees and others who we feel must use it to provide our products and services. Their use of the personal data is limited by law, our employee code of conduct, and written agreements where appropriate. We also maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect your personal data.
Your Right to Review and Correct Personal Data

Include your full name, address, telephone number, and policy number (if applicable). Let us know what kind of data you want to see and state that your request is in response to this Privacy Policy. Within 30 business days, we will describe what is available and how you may request corrections. We will also name anyone we show as having received the information within two years prior to your request. Finally, we will identify the companies that have provided Consumer Report Information about you.
You may review the information at our offices or receive a copy of it for a fee to cover our costs. We will not provide information that we feel is privileged, such as information about insurance claims or lawsuits.
To correct information about you, send a written request as described above, explaining your desired correction. Within 30 business days, we will either make the requested correction or tell you why we won't. We cannot correct Consumer Report Information, such as your credit report. To do this, you must contact the consumer reporting agency that provided it.
If we make your requested correction, we will notify you in writing. We will also notify anyone named by you who may have received the information within the previous two years. If required by law, we will also notify others who may have given it to or received it from us. If we refuse to make the requested correction, you may file with us a concise written statement about why you object, including the information you think is correct. Your statement will then become part of your file. It will be sent to the same persons to whom we would send a copy of any correction or change.
Additional Information for Website Visitors
When you visit our Web sites, we use the information we collect to provide services to you. We use Web Site Information to help understand what you want so that we can enhance your online experience. For example, if you start an insurance quote on our Web site, but decide to finish it later, we will save your information so you can pick up where you left off. We also use Web Site Information to analyze use of our Web sites. Information that does not identify you, or that you give us for contests and surveys, may be used for marketing purposes.
We use cookies (a small text file stored on your computer) to evaluate your questions and requests, so that we can tailor insurance services to meet your needs. They help us keep track of your preferences, and help streamline your session.
Cookies also help us improve service. We use cookies to track how people navigate through the site and use web features. They help us evaluate quote sessions and other forms, to make the Web site quick and easy to use. These cookies collect data that we use to improve the Web site. For instance, we may collect data about the Web site pages visited, last page visited before our Web site, and the time and duration of a visit. These cookies identify the desktop web browser, not a specific person and contain no personal information.
We advertise on other companies' Web sites. Some of these sites may use cookies and Web beacons to capture and transmit non-personally identifiable information about you to us or our Service Providers. We also may use advertising companies to display our ads on Web sites. Your E-mail address
When you quote or buy insurance on our Web site, we collect your e-mail address so that we can send you e-mails concerning your transactions with us, and other information we think you'll find useful.
With your permission, we will occasionally send e-mail to you with updates about our products and services or special promotions. You can stop receiving promotional updates by using the links provided in the emails, or contacting us at CSR@FreedomGeneral.com.
To ensure you get our e-mails, our service provider or we may receive confirmations when you open them or click through e-mail links. These confirmations may also show whether your e-mail application supports graphics, so we can tailor our messages to you.
We will share your e-mail address with your selected agent or broker. We will not share your e-mail address with other companies for their marketing purposes without your consent.
Website Privacy
Our security measures help ensure that your data is secured and encrypted, so that others cannot access it while in transit. We limit access to our servers and require our employees to adhere to high standards of ethics and integrity in performing their jobs.
We use a secure server and security protocol to safeguard information you provide during the purchase process. Our secure server uses TLS/SSL protocols to to protect data when you use any of our website features: quotes and policy purchases, claim reports, live chat, phone call-back, making payments and policy changes. We handle your information via up to 256-bit encryption. When you request a quote your data is encrypted as it travels between your computer and our server. You must have a password and ID to see your personal data and policy details on line. Every secure page on our Web sites has a digital certificate that is shown via the site certificate that resides on all secure pages. To view this certificate, click on the image of the "closed lock" or the "solid key" shown in your browser window.
